When a Single Page Makes Someone Cry
What my mother’s hidden letter continues to teach me
When readers tell me they cried because of a single page in my book, I pause. Not out of pride, but out of appreciation and reverence for what their hearts felt in that moment.
In Your Heart Knows the Way: 8 Strategies to Access Your True Power, I included a letter my mother wrote to us (page 41). She wrote it before she passed, but we didn’t find it until after she was gone. It was tucked away in her purse, waiting for us to find her final gift.
Her letter isn’t dramatic or polished. It’s the kind of truth that appears when someone knows their time is short. She wasn’t trying to impress us.
She simply wanted us to know how much we meant to her.
When readers cry, I know they’re not crying for my mother.
I think they’re crying for their own mothers.
For the words they wish they had heard.
For the words they wish they had said.
For the reminder that now is the time to tell the people we love, “I love you.”
If you’ve cried reading that page. I understand and thank you. It means her voice is still travelling. It means her love is still doing its quiet work in the world.
And maybe that’s the message she wanted all of us to receive:
Love doesn’t end. It just changes form.
I love you Mom!
